As much as I love making goals and plans, unfortunately, just putting them down on paper isn’t enough to make them happen. Making a goal is just the first step in a process that calls for constant review and reflection. In 2021, I decided to make part of my review process bigger and more important. Companies complete quarterly reviews. They look back at what works, look forward to what needs to be done, and oftentimes, they report their big wins, usually through earnings, but also through the important products they pushed out or the metrics they hit. I think it’s equally important to look back, look ahead, and celebrate my own accomplishments. By doing this, I can remind myself who and where I want to be.
I tried starting a quarterly review in 2020, and in many ways, it was a wash, so I wanted to start fresh in this year. I began by reflecting on January, February, and March.
Looking Back
One of the biggest things I wanted to check in on was how constant I was with sticking with my yearly goals. To do so, I brought out the big guns: my new year’s resolutions. We often make our resolutions when we are bright eyed and bushy tailed and thinking we can take on the world. I make a long list of resolutions, even though common knowledge tells us to narrow down our goals. It makes sense. Trying to do ten things at once often results in us doing six things in a mediocre way and not doing the other four at all. To combat this, I broke my resolutions down into categories and tried to prioritize certain categories. This also helped me reflect on the category as a whole.
Looking Forward
I’m really looking to crushing my health goals. It’s something I CONSTANTLY put on the back burner, but I know that ultimately, I’m not helping myself by doing that. I know it’s not something that I’ll do by sheet will. So, I decided to start working with a nutrition coach (Shout out BeFueled!). In the next three months, I want to feel more secure of the type of role I want, both in work and in life. I also want to see myself as a writer and put in the time and effort. I enjoy writing and when I’m doing it, time flies, but I allow myself to get distracted or feel stuck before I even start. I’ve started to see some progress in my resolutions (especially my reading!), and I want to keep coasting on that momentum.
I’m excited to see where the next three months take me!
