It’s summer! Not officially, but for me, school is out, and, at the time I’m writing this (May 31st), June is on the horizon. The first day of the June is the start of summer for me. I don’t care what the Summer Solstice says!
This has been a heavy week. As cities and states slowly (or too quickly) begin to reopen after flattening the curve (or more accurately during the flattening for some), we are seeing mass protests and riots against police brutality. It’s heart wrenching to watch Black folks in the streets protesting disproportionate death by police while facing a pandemic that also disproportionately kills us. Where is the mercy in all of this? Where are those others standing in the pursuit of justice? These are the types of things I’ve been questioning while watching these events unfold. It’s given me renewed purposed. In May, I finished paying off my credit card debt! I’ve been so excited about this because I know paying down debts will open up my money more for the things I want to use it for, not the things I foolishly thought were important in the past. This past week, I donated to the Minnesota Freedom Fund (who received so much support they are now redirecting to other orgs) and the Atlanta Solidarity Fund. Since about a month ago, I’ve been thinking about where I’ll start contributing a monthly donation. One of my commitments this month is to make that decision and START!
That was a lot to preface, but a lot is happening. Paying off my credit card debt feels like some weight lifted off my soldiers. As of May 31st, 2020, with those new zero balances, my net worth is
-$4,560!
Your girl is making money moves expeditiously! I’m not sure how this number will change in the next month. I’m job searching and new-city searching, so I’m trying to save more than I have been. The prospect of entering the job market in the wake of corona has been pretty terrifying, but I’m hoping that it’ll pay off soon. See you next month!
