It’s a new month and that means a new net worth!
I’ve been really excited to get to the end of each month so I can see how my
net worth has changed, and this month BOY DID IT! As of September 30th,
2019, my net worth is
-$14,970!!!
That’s almost a $2,500 change! How’d I do it? Well, by making a big mistake. When I calculated my initial net worth, I totally forgot to calculate my retirement income. In fact, I didn’t even know how to access my teacher’s retirement account. I had to go through a lot of hoops to finally get in, but it was worth it! I think it’s important for me to know where all my money is and that includes my retirement savings. So, from here on out, I’ll make sure to include it.
What you can’t see because of this mistake is the growth in my liabilities. Unfortunately, I was pretty spendy on my credit cards in September (see Financial Blackout), but I know I’ll do better this month!

Briana Francois is an aspiring producer, a public transportation advocate, and a laugher; some would call that a triple threat. She is passionate about many things. One of her biggest passions is representation in television. Briana believes that every person has a story, and that story is worth telling. She sees improving representation in television as a way of allowing marginalized people to see themselves as major characters in their own lives, not just side characters in the lives of others. By uplifting those in the margins, we ultimately become better citizens of the world.
Briana is also passionate about ending the cycle of poverty through education. In 2018, she joined Teach for America and worked as a High School English and History teacher in rural Alabama. When she’s not working towards her career goals, Briana enjoys making goals in her planner, cooking new recipes, learning about managing money, and developing her own TV schedule to avoid binge watching.
